God in Control

When fear and doubt
Pain reigns throughout
Above it all
God in control.

When fear and doubt

Pain reigns throughout

Above it all

God in control.

In wealth, in lack
Devil ransacks
Find rest my soul
God in control.

Lovingly wise
Grace hears our cries
Our great console
God in control.

Good and constant
Never dormant
Justice extolled
God in control.

Soul trust in Him
When future’s grim
Knees down you fall
God in control.

Run to His arms
Tell Him your qualms
He’ll fill that hole
God in control.

In Christ we’re one
Daughters and sons
Jesus, the goal
God in control.

Let God take full control.

I invite you to surrender in humility and receive Jeus through this prayer.

Christ: self denial and dying to one’s self

To be like Christ, to die to one self is to accept the lordship of Father God in one’s life and to place an immense urgency to honor and obey whatever His will is without any regards to self and other people.. no ifs, no buts..

Self denial and dying to one’s self..

I thought I had a different understanding of what self denial and dying to one self means..

To be like Christ, to die to one self is to accept the lordship of Father God in one’s life and to place an immense urgency to honor and obey whatever His will is without any regards to self and other people.. no ifs, no buts..

Dying to onself is to be like..

Samuel who was the faithful priest who did all according to what is in the heart and mind of God (1 Samuel 2:35)..

David who was regarded to be the man after God’s own heart because he did all of God’s will (Acts 13:22)..

And

Jesus whose food was to do the will of God and to finish His work (John 4:34)..

So I urge you brethren, when we pray, let’s take heart and mean (with a humbled, accepting heart of submission) what the Lord’s prayer said:

Matthew 6:9-10 NKJV
In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.

Unhindered, unopinionated
Absolutely good and infinitely wise will of our sovereign God

Psalm 115:3 NKJV
But our God is in heaven
He does whatever He pleases.

I pray that the LORD God Almighty bestow upon you the grace to desire to receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Here’s a prayer for you.

Be Still! Rejoice! He is God!

Break out into singing all you children of the Jehovah Sabaoth! Be still! Rejoice! He is God! He is exalted among the nations! He is exalted in the earth! Be still! Rejoice!

Yesterday, I was taken aback by a post in facebook. On the post was one of our church’s original songs entitled, “Purihin Pangalan Niya” (personal translation: Praise His Name) and who originally composed it. What surprised me was that it was composed by the youth of Hope Tacloban in Philippines as a thanksgiving song after these youth and their families where transferred to their new houses whilst Typhoon Yolanda was wreaking dire havoc. The song is well loved as its lyrics and tempo will bring about singing and dancing full of joy and praises to God.

Such a timely reminder, as today Strait Times reported 7 new cases of the 2019 nCOV infection here in Singapore. Some cases are near home which whispered much fear in my heart. At the same time, the words, “Be still and know that I am God.” lingered in my mind. Looking for more comfort, I read through the whole chapter of Psalm 46:

“God is our refuge and strength,
A[a] very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear,
Even though the earth be removed,
And though the mountains be carried into the [b]midst of the sea;
Though its waters roar and be troubled,
Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah

There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God,
The holy place of the [c]tabernacle of the Most High.
God is in the midst of her, she shall not be [d]moved;
God shall help her, just [e]at the break of dawn.
The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved;
He uttered His voice, the earth melted.

The Lord of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah

Come, behold the works of the Lord,
Who has made desolations in the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two;
He burns the chariot in the fire.

10 Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!

11 The Lord of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah”

What an encouragement from the LORD! He is our refuge and strength! He is always present and He will help in any trouble whether it was earthquakes, crumbling mountains or roaring oceans. He gives us an assurance that He is always with His children. He is powerful and sovereign above it all even when nations are in chaos and kingdoms crumble. Desolation and wars aren’t something He is unconscious of, but rather, in His wisdom and judgement, His works. He is Jehovah Sabaoth, Lord of Hosts and He is with us! What do we need to do? Do we fear? Do we panic? Do we give in to defeat? No! We need to be still and know that He is God! Our God, the Lord of the Heavenly Armies! Again, we need to be still and know He is God! The God who doesn’t change! Whose faithfulness and mercies cover a thousand generations!

Somehow, I understood how those youth from Tacloban were able to compose such a wonderful song of praise amidst much lost and sorrow. The typhoon may have taken their homes, but the LORD God have provided new homes for them. From the provision God rendered to them comes a quiet confidence that He was with them during the storm, their very present help in that trouble, thereby yielding a song full of rejoicing!  Truly, His name is worthy of highest praises!

So instead of being discouraged of this rising number of 2019 n-COV infection, I pray that we stand firm, not letting fear seize our hearts. Instead, we hold our ground and continue to believe that our LORD God is the God Almighty above all things! No matter how this outbreak unfolds, God is God! Break out into singing all you children of the Jehovah Sabaoth! Be still! Rejoice! He is God! He is exalted among the nations! He is exalted in the earth! Be still! Rejoice!

If you would like to have this stillness in Jehovah Sabaoth through Jesus Christ is, I greatly and lovingly encourage you to click this.

Thoughts and Prayers on Wuhan

Isaiah 59:19 KJVS
”So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.”

Just recently, fear has come across the world with regards to the outbreak from the 2019 novel coronavirus or commonly known as the “Wuhan virus”. News, videos of stories, even rumours about this incident are all over the internet. Masks are flying off the shelves despite the higher than usual prices.

Don’t get me wrong. The moment we had a suspected case in our ward, wherein I was currently finishing my shift, gave me both chills (as the suspected patient was only a few meters away from me) and relief (as just finish work and was about to go home). This patient was tested negative by the way.

But in all these things, I know and believe that our Almighty God is sovereign. He is above all things even above this seemingly catastrophe that has struck the world on the beginning of this new decade we are all looking forward to.

Frankly I am more concerned of the misleading public information that had created unnecessary fear and worry. Panic is a very dangerous thing wherein we act out of impulse and not out of wisdom. My uttermost prayer is that God will not only protect us from the virus itself but will generously bestow wisdom unto His children in choosing what to believe in and how to vigilantly act on it.

Bear in mind and in heart that if God was sovereign over the fall of man, if He was sovereign over the reign of kings, if He was sovereign over rise and fall of civilizations, if He was sovereign over wars, tsunamis, hurricanes, floods, births and deaths, well.. surely, surely, He is sovereign over this Wuhan pandemic. All these things don’t change the fact that HE IS GOD, THE GREAT I AM whom we can trust and depend on as HE would faithfully never leave us nor forsake us.i

I remembered one wise pastor said “God shakes the heavens and nations with natural disasters and turmoil for the fulfilment of His divine plan and agenda.”

His thoughts are not our thoughts, His ways are not our ways. We may not know what His agenda is, but we know who God is and hopefully believe in His supremacy in all the universe.

I’m not saying that we should be laxed about the matter, no! Vigilant personal hygiene, healthy lifestyle and diligent prayer should be in our utmost practice at present. But do not let fear dictate your actions. Let the Holy Spirit within do that. Continue to rest in God’s almighty power and infinite wisdom.

And if ever, we will get infected. If ever, Singapore will have another outbreak like SARS, I pray that we remember His immutable faithfulness. He said in Isaiah 43 that when we pass through the waters, He will be with us. He promised that when we walked through the fire, we will not be burned.

And in any case of  death, I pray that God, in all the abundance of His grace, mercy and love, will give you peace that even in death, He is sovereign and that precious in His sight is the death of His saints. (Psalm 116:15)

Coincidentally (Again, emphasis on I don’t believe in coincidences), our Hope Conference theme this year is “We Have Won”. Yes! WE HAVE WON. WE HAVE WON. WE HAVE WON IN CHRIST JESUS! I pray that these words resonate to every believer’s hearts, minds and spirits. Let’s press on to the victory we have in Christ Jesus! I’ll say it again,

We have won in Christ Jesus!

Isaiah 59:19 KJVS

“So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.”

Romans 8:28 (Part 2)

Romans 8:28 (NKJV)
28 And we know that all things work together
for good to those who love God,
to those who are the called
according to His purpose.

Let’s get back to the rest of this wonderful promise!

for good.

Now here, most people have many misconceptions. When we think of our good, we think of our benefit, our convenience. But most of us don’t even have a slightest clue on what is good or if it will turn out to be for our good. It’s like when I buy clothing. I usually buy something because it looks nice on display and I think it would look nice on me. I put it on and test it in inside the fitting room and sees that my decision to buy it is correct. When I wear it to an event, that’s when I would unfortunately realize that it is too fitted or too big or have a too deep neckline or the straps are falling off my shoulders or even the fabric is too sheer which is a big disaster. It’s like when I buy heels that make my legs look slimmer and sexier and ended up arguing with the same heels and throwing them out because of the many many blisters it gave my feet all the time I wear them (true story btw).

The truth is we don’t know what is good for us. We are completely ignorant of what will give us the greatest benefit. We desire for a lot of things thinking they will be good for us. We think that we know better when in both sides of reality, only God does as He is omniscient. The only way we can be assured that what we choose will be for our good is only if it is in line with His will. Not something pleasing to the eyes, not something other people said is good, but because it is His will.

Then what if I mistakenly or intentionally go against His will? We, the children of God, the eternally secured in Christ. In these times when we become wayward, He, as omnipotent and sovereign as He is, is still able to change and fix things up, not His will, but all things around it, including us, so that we will realize that we are going the wrong way. He will let us undergo a very very painful learning process, which we can actually avoid, until we surrender and say “Thy will be done” because He knows it will be for our good. In time, when mature in our walk with Him, He will enable us not to live our lives according to our will but according to His.

to those who love God.

Well this promise is for everyone who loves God and entrusted their lives solely unto Him through faith in the salvation and lordship of Christ Jesus. We cannot simply say that we love God and go on with our lives.

The Bible says in Matthew 22:37-38 says, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment.” Loving God demands our everything: our heart, our soul and our mind. He is to be our greatest treasure, cherished and delighted into, desired above everything else. (See the article: A Treasure Found).

This will only be possible once we received Jesus in our lives as our Lord and Savior (here is how). The reason behind it is it is impossible to treat God as your most treasured possession as humans. Humans, because of our sins, cannot come before a Holy God. In ourselves alone, our eyes are veiled and blinded from the beauty of His grace and love in Christ Jesus. We maybe able to see and know God the Father but it will extremely difficult to obey Him and surrender unto Him if we rely only our own. We all are sinful by our innate nature, selfish and foolish beings in rebellion who think highly only of ourselves and want to take control of our own lives and would never relinquish it to anyone else.

But once we repent of our sins and receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we become born again and a new creation. We will have Christ living in us through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.  Now with Jesus living in us and convicting us through the Holy Spirit, we will be able to really treasure God for who He is whom is above everything else just like Jesus did. We will desire for God and a deeper intimacy for Him. We will  be able to keep His commandments because we love Him through us abiding in Christ.

to those who are the called according to His purpose.

Lastly, we, the beloved children of God, are here on earth not just to enjoy the blessings of the abundant life He bestows upon us but we are the called according to His purpose. His purpose is not according to our terms and condition but His terms which is for us to be  transformed from glory to glory and become Christ-like. We are to be changed and conformed to the image of Christ. Why is that?

Christ as we all know is God-incarnate, the image of God. He is the greatest manifestation and revelation of God’s love for the world. As John 3:16 says: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” God willingly gave Jesus up for the undeserving world to save us from our sins because of His love. Jesus willingly died as His obedience to the Father. As a result, we who received Him will have eternal life. Jesus is the glory of the grace of God.

When we are transformed to the likeness of Christ, we will be  able to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. God’s love will have a physical vessel in this cruel world, us loving other people thorough Christ. Just as Jesus laid down His life  for us, in Christ, we are enabled to selflessly and lovingly lay down our lives for all sorts of people all over the world. We can be a poured out wine and broken bread with joy as we grasp God’s purpose for our Christ-likeness reveals His heart: His glorious outrageous love for people and the world.

I pray that whenever we are reminded of this marvelous promise God has for us we will really use it to convict us and direct us on the great truth it contains. May we be able to believe in our hearts that:

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28 (NKJV)

Romans 8:28 (Part 1)

Romans 8:28 (NKJV)
28 And we know that all things work together
for good to those who love God,
to those who are the called
according to His purpose.

One of the most loved verses in the Bible, this promise offers such comfort to believers everywhere. It gives us an assurance that everything that happens in our lives, especially the hard and difficult times, will be used by God for our good and His glory. But I wonder how much truth do we really understand regarding this passage. Let’s slowly take it apart and learn more.

And.

The preceding verses of this part of Romans 8 talks about the suffering that we, believers, have to endure at present (Romans 8:18) and the bondage of corruption that the creation is now temporarily captive of (Romans 8:21). Along with these are our responses to these suffering and bondage, that we, ourselves and the whole creation, groan and long to be delivered from it and let the glory in us be finally revealed (Romans 8:18-23). Now the next verses come with the promises of hope, perseverance and help from the Holy Spirit through intercession (Romans 8:24-27) where our verse comes next as an addition and a conclusion.

Yes, we will have tribulations in this life that we need to endure. Yes, we will long to be set free from the evil that our innate human nature has. We will experience pain and suffering, failures and setbacks. But God promises us His comfort amidst all these. He promises hope in Him as we persevere and eagerly wait on Him. God promises that the Helper, the Holy Spirit that iswill aid us through rough and confusing times when we do not know what to pray for and even how to pray anymore. And lastly, He promises that all that we will go thru will be used by Him.

we know that.

To know in a sense is to have the possession of a certain truth, fact, or knowledge as Merriam Webster defines it and most people superficially perceive it as only that. To know is to be informed. But actually, to know goes beyond getting the information. To know means having direct cognition, awareness and understanding of the information given, also as defined by Merriam-Webster. The mind should be able to process and digest the information through the use of our senses. The information will not be left as it is but it will create something inside of the receiver and be utilized and manifested outwardly. It isn’t something of mere passive receiving. It has to be something that is actively perceiving.

Having said that, this promise that we have in Romans 8:28 should not be just a mere fact or information we know about God, like “Oh, I know God is like this and that; I know He also will do this and that”, but it should be an unshakable rock where our faith and trust in His character as our God should be deeply rooted. This amazing truth should manifest in our daily lives: how we interact with people, how we face challenges, how we fight sin and the battles within ourselves, how we make choices and decisions wherever we maybe. These actions proves that we have a great understanding and perception of who God is in our lives and what He is capable to do.

all things.

Ah! This one made me smile. Usually when we read this part, we right away think of good and bad things. We think of the comfort and pain we have in this life, our successes and defeats, health and sickness, blessings and afflictions, joys and sorrows. But we should not limit it with these.

When the Apostle Paul said “all things“, he really meant it. It includes the big and small events in our lives, from the smallest decision we make to hardest choice we have to choose. Even the things that we think are unnoticeable and insignificant, the implications of our actions, well, God includes that as well.

It also includes the times we reluctantly disobey God due to fear and doubt and also the times we surrendered and willingly  obey Him.

It includes all sorts of people we meet and know and may it be for a few seconds or a few hours or days everywhere.

It includes our past, present and our future.

It even includes the places we have been thru. The sights we have seen. The experiences we have.

It includes our hopes and dreams, our failures and nightmares.

It includes all things my finite mind can think of and cannot think of anymore.

All these things are not out of God’s self-indulgence or compulsion or ignorance. God, with all His infinite wisdom, will have all these things used by Him and not be wasted. All things.

work together.

And everything listed up will work together! HUH?! Really??? Even the times when I failed Him because I cheated? Even the times I got angry and hurt someone? Even when I deliberately disobeyed Him? I mean good and wonderful things, when combine, are meant to produce good and wonderful results. We get that. But to add the bad things, the sour things, the bitter things, even the evil, ugly, gruesome, scary and dirty things? Oh Yes! It’s like God making a delicious meal with a recipe including all that we are and all that we have. Adding mud and manure to sugar and cream! Only He, in His awesome power and infinite wisdom, can mix everything together, no exclusions, and make everything work together in harmony to produce a delightful taste!

Created “Perfectly” By God

A personal experience has inspired me in writing this blog. When I was in grade school, I was often bullied so I tried to fit in and be a ‘somehow’ bully-type student. This continues until secondary school, subconsciously until I reached my university days. I carried this until my first job in Philippines, I was working like I was competing for superb applause and praise from the people around me. I even came to the point where I skip lunch just to accomplish a deadline, seeking for pleasing recognition from my immediate supervisor. But when I met Jesus, He showed me that I was indeed created perfectly by God. That no one can turn me down, I am His son, I am precious, I am chosen! Daily revelations from God by meditating in His words have given me clear directions where to put my focus, energy, resources and time.

According to a study, a cold hard data shows that narcissistic disorder has been found in population with ages starting from 20, to be three times higher than those that are 65 years old and older. Narcissistic disorder is the pursuit of gratification for vanity or egotistic admiration of self-attributes. The term was derived from Greek mythology of young Narcissus who fell in love with his own image reflected in a pool of water.

Everyone has been very conscious with everything about themselves. From their head to toes, from the food they eat, how they look, the manner they speak, having latest gadgets, being into the latest fashion trends or hairstyles. There is nothing wrong with all of these. But unconsciously, this level of consciousness has been the result of our desire to conform with the world, to be liked, to be loved, to be accepted and to fit into the world.

“And do not be conformed to this world (any longer with its superficial values and customs), but be transformed and progressively changed (as you mature spiritually) by the renewing of your mind (focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes), so that you may prove (for yourselves) what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect (in His plan and purpose for you).

Romans 12:2 (AMP)

  1. You are God’s masterpiece

He has made everything beautiful and appropriate in its time. He has also planted eternity (a sense of divine purpose) in the human heart (a mysterious longing which nothing under the sun can satisfy, except God)—yet man cannot find out (comprehend, grasp) what God has done (His overall plan) from the beginning to the end.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 (AMP)

We are God’s masterpiece. An art done by famous artists can be imitated, yet it cannot be valued the same as the original copy. It is the same thing with us, we are unique masterpiece of God, no one can replace us. At the same time, we cannot imitate someone nor pretend to be someone and live our entire lives pretending.

In a recent interview to a YouTube-star turned celebrity in Philippines who underwent physical enhancement, he said that he is very happy in achieving what he wants (good physical looks) and with this (new look, new him) many people will love and like him.

Our happiness in life should not be dependent on other people. The Bible says, “He has made everything (including “us”) beautiful and appropriate in our time”. Man can fail us anytime, anywhere, but God’s love never fail, it never runs dry on us. “He remembered us in our weakness. His faithful love endures forever” (Psalm 136:23 NLT)

It is better to take refuge in the Lord
Than to trust in man.”

Psalm 118:8

Albert Einstein once said, “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid” We are God’s masterpiece and He is the only one who knows us, our purpose, and prepared the plans and ways for us even before we were born.

For You formed my innermost parts;
You knit me [together] in my mother’s womb.
I will give thanks and praise to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Wonderful are Your works,
And my soul knows it very well.

Psalm 139:13-14

Henry Ford once found someone down the road fixing his car engine. He stopped and extend a help to a man. The man looks at him believing that Henry Ford cannot do anything. Suddenly, Henry Ford asked the man to start the engine and it worked. The man asked, “How did you know how to fix this car?” Henry Ford answered humbly, “It was me, who created that car”.

2. You Are Created For A Purpose

When I became a Christian, I learned by heart that I was created by God for a purpose. God did not allowed Moses to be adopted by the Pharaoh’s daughter for no reason, but to set free the Israelite from captivity. Through pursuing Christ above all of my insecurities in life, He is making a holistic change (change from within) in me.

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a consecrated nation, a (special)people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies (the wonderful deeds and virtues and perfections) of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light

1 Peter 2:9

I cannot imagine that God has put me into leadership in our life group, being entrusted to do things that will usher His presence to the people. I can say that now, I am far from a shy, self-centered, me-myself-and-I me. But God put more compassion in my heart and love for God and His people.

3. Nothing Can Separate You From The Love of Christ

Pastor Steven Furtick emphasizes that we have been attached too much to the praises that we may get from others that even from time to time we check our social medias for the number of “likes”, “shares” and even ‘comments”.

As humans, we tend to seek tangible love from the people around us through their appreciation of us. We sometimes neglect the love of God because we can not see Him. A common saying says, “What you see is what you get”.

Not because you do not see God means He does not love you. He loves you and nothing can separate you fro the love of Christ.

As a conclusion, God created us perfectly for a purpose of showing how much He loves us. Despite how much we saw our imperfections, Jesus took all our infirmities so that we might be the righteousness of God through Christ Jesus.

Great is Thy Faithfulness

Great is Thy Faithfulness, Lord unto me!

Lyrics by: Thomas Chisholm

Music by: William Runyan

Great Is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father!

There is no shadow of turning with Thee;

Though changest not,

Thy compassions, they fail not

As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.

Great Is Thy faithfulness,

Great Is Thy faithfulness,

Morning by morning new mercies I see;

All I have needed Thy hand hath provided

Great is Thy Faithfulness, Lord unto me!

Summer and winter,

and springtime and harvest,

Sun, moon, and stars in their courses above,

Join with all nature in manifold witness

To Thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love.

Pardon for Sin and a peace that endureth,

Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide,

Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow

Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Long Way Round

For us Christians, sometimes, when things does not happen to the way we want it to happen and it seems that nowhere our desire is to be found, we must know that God is leading us to the Long Way Round.

Because…

God knows we are not ready yet
God knows exactly what we need
God knows what is ahead of us
…and with that journey of Long Way Round —God is with us, that is the assurance! He planned everything all for His glory.

When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said, “If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” So God led the people around by the desert road toward the Red Sea. The Israelites went up out of Egypt ready for battle.

Exodus 13:17‭-‬18 NIV

Crossing the Red Sea

When God took Israelites to exit from Egypt, God did not let them pass through the Philistine, though it was the shorter way. But else, God lead them to the desert road or  Long Way Round to go to the Promised Land.

Quoting Christine Caine in one of her teachings in Colour Conference 2016 in Sydney. She said the reason why God did not lead them to the shorter way to the promised land is because “they are still in their slaves mentality.”

That is true in our lives as Christians.  Most of the time, when things  not get right our side,  we tend to be in our  slaves mentality. Like Israelites, for 430 years of being slaves in Egypt,  it has made them think that their life was “ok” in Egypt being slaves. They are complacent with Goshen (Egypt)  and was thinking the place for them to live.

WHY ISRAELITES THOUGHT OF BEING IN A SLAVES MENTALITY?

1. They are Full of Fears and Easily Give Up!

Exodus 14:10 “As Pharaoh approached the Israelites looked up & there were the Egyptians marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the Lord.

2. Narrow-minded!

Exodus 14:11 “They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in  Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing out of Egypt?”

3. Still Holding On The Past!

Exodus 14:12  “Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, “Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians’. It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert.

God took the “Long Way Round” because God does not want them to be in a slaves mentality. He wants them to know and prove to them that Israelites are children of God. He wants to tell them…

  • that “I AM, the Great I AM, is your Father and you are my children.
  • that  He is the Great provider
  • that He is faithful
  • that He will protect you
  • that His love is unfailing
  • that Israelites are no longer slaves.

Exodus 13:21 ” By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so, that they could travel by day or night.

For us Christians, sometimes, when things does not happen to the way we want it to happen and it seems that nowhere our desire is to be found, we must know that God is leading us to the Long Way Round.

Because…

  • God knows we are not ready yet
  • God knows exactly what we need
  • God knows what is ahead of us

…and with that journey of Long Way RoundGod is with us, that is the assurance! He planned everything all for His glory.

Exodus 14:3-4 “3 Pharaoh will think, ‘The Israelites are wandering around the land in confusion, hemmed in by the desert.’ 4 And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will pursue them. But I will gain glory for myself through Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord.” So the Israelites did this.’

Exodus 14:31 “31 And when the Israelites saw the mighty hand of the Lord displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the Lord and put their trust in him and in Moses his servant.”

In conclusion,

When God took us the Long Way Round, we need to be ...

  • Bold!
  • Still!
  • Stand firm to what you believe in!
  • Hold onto His promises. Think about it. Live with it and Talk about it.

Exodus 14:13-14 “Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. 14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

When God took us the Long Way Round, He wants our faith to be deeply rooted in Him. He wants us to persevere, because as we persevere we will get the reward, and that reward is His glory through Christ Jesus! (Phil 3:13-14)

All glory to God!
